This course is an overview designed for those new to the world of writing for children, or those who have written something and aren?t quite sure what to do with the finished work. We will explore the different types of children?s books from picture books through younger chapter books and what makes them work. You will discover the importance of developing good writing and revising skills, and tips on finding publishers and how to submit to them. If you have started a story, bring a brief summary to share if time permits. Limit one to two sentences maximum. Required: $2 materials fee payable to instructor at the beginning of the course. (Minimum course size is 6 and maximum is 25.)Instructor: Denise Vega - Denise Vega is the award-winning author of six books for children ranging in ages from toddler to teen. Some of her books include Build a Burrito: A Counting Book in English and Spanish, Grandmother, Have the Angels Come?. Books for older readers include Click Here (to find out how i survived seventh grade) winner of the Colorado Book Award. Her other young adult novels are the award-winning Fact of Life #31 and Rock On: A story of guitars, gigs, girls, and a brother (not necessarily in that order). Denise is a Co-Regional Advisor for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the SCBWI.
