Description:
|
If you already play the mandolin but want to improve your skills and comfort level when taking "breaks" and playing rhythm at moderate tempos, this class is for you! Although it's is designed to accompany the intermediate mandolin group lesson class, it can be taken independently. In addition to the mandolin, other acoustic instruments (guitar, fiddle, bass, banjo, dobro) are also welcome. What we will work on: developing and fine-tuning the skills necessary for playing in a performance group setting. What will be perfected: transitioning easily between chords, finding the melody, improvising over chord structures, fundamentals of timing in 4/4 and 3/4 time, listening skills and transition from lead to backup playing, and options of reading tab and music notation, as well as developing skills for learning by ear. A songbook will be provided as a starting point, but students are also encouraged to bring in a song or two as well. Students must bring their own instruments.

Section Notes:

Students must bring their own instruments, electronic tuner, notebook, pencil, 3-ring binder, and something to record with (phone or tablet, etc.).
