Class Name: Dental Radiology and Safety Training for the Unlicensed X Ray Technician
Cost: $239.00
Course Classification: Professional Development
Description: FRCC is now offering a Dental Radiology Certificate for Dental Assistants that will meet the Dental Board requirement for training unlicensed persons and bring them up to date of the new office requirements. Adopted rule changes to the Board of Health requirements for X-Ray training, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance went into effect January 14, 2020. Most dental offices are unfamiliar with these new rules. This new 1-day, 9-hour class will cover: dental nomenclature as it pertains to X rays; machine operations and exposure factors; panoramic, intraoral and hand-held X ray unit use; operator and patient safety considerations; quality assurance annual review program development; quarterly routine analysis of X ray images and troubleshooting problems; operation and preventive maintenance of dental X ray equipment; afternoon hands-on training on mannequins and fellow students. Students can also elect to take the morning portion of the class online through the CDA online 8.5 hour course approved by the Dental Board, then join the class in the afternoon for 5 hours of hands-on training in the following: Intra/extra-oral techniques for exposing radiographic images; Appropriate film processing and handling requirements; appropriate patient record documentation for radiographic images. Students choosing this option should enroll in section 602. After successfully completing the class and taking an exam, students will be provided with a certificate of completion to verify training. Digital radiographs will be emphasized throughout the course, but film radiographs will be reviewed per Board Requirements. The class will be taught by Dr. Greg Evans, DDS board certified pediatric dentist and owner of Big Grins Pediatric Dentistry. He has taught at FRCC for over 20 years in EDDA advance training and Nitrous Oxide training. Students must be at least 18 years of age or older per state law for exposing dental radiographs, and must provide a letter of verification of employment in a dental office.
Section Notes: This section is all-day, in person. To enroll in the morning online/afternoon in-person, choose section 602. See course description for details.
